Reading week 3-Game design

 Reading week 3-Game design

What is a game anyway?: Reading this made me see that theres to just calling a "game" a game because theres a lot more stuff going into making a game, at first when I saw the article I didn't want to read it because I thought most of it would just be common sense, but then I read the Critical Vocabulary section which made me laugh because what is said was true when we describe a new game to someone, one of the ways we do it is by describing them from other games like this game is basically a downgraded Grand Theft Auto or this game is a mix of Call of duty and Rainbow six siege, and it's not an accurate answer at all because the game most likely doesn't even play like the games we would describe it's like, it's a pretty vague and not a very detailed answer, but most people that play games for a while would understand it, but then I was thinking of the point of view of someone that doesn't play games and how would they digest this information.Another section that I liked was the Weakness of definition section for example "Role-playing games just like the article says "they have word game right in the title" but aren't considered games because they don't have a final outcome like most games and then I started to think that would't must of these role-playing games be in the same definition as a sandbox type of game like Minecraft because that game doesn't have a final outcome as well.

The organic nature of game ideation: Reading this article has showed me more on how more in depth the ideas of making actually takes, for example in the first part the introduction section I learned that you don't have to be super creative person to be able to make a game, it doesn't matter how creative a person can be there always going to hit a blank wall were they can't think of anything and why it's good to recruit people "outside their comfort zone", and I also forgot about how there are many creative methods you can use like brainstorming I always thought brainstorming was something that kids did in primary school I didn't know a lot of people in the work place would use brainstorming and another method is brain writing.

Four Basic Methods for Generating Ideas: I always thought that there was only one way of making or generating ideas was too just think and hopefully you'll figure it out and boom you have a nice idea in your head I didn't know how many methods of generating ideas for example Scamper you can use Scamper when your working on a certain genre that you may dislike but it works and brings results and a lot of game designers use this method. And you can go more in depth with Scamper using substitute and adapt.Another method I liked while reading this article was the Ramsey method because I do think it's true that if you look at the small amount of information that you have gotten after looking closely and deeply into it you'll eventually find more information or ideas.

“Is video game addiction real?” Why was it made? The aim of this particular study is to look at the longer terms and impact when it comes to people that have a particular relationship with video games and how playing video games for a period of time can do to a person over time   , in this article it was based off of a six year study, the longest study ever done on video game addiction, and It’s very rare    it’s also found that 90% of gamers do not play in a way that is harmful or causes negative long term consequences and it’s actually a significant minority , though it’s still very bad because of how people can get truly addicted to video games and as a result can suffer mentally, socially and behaviorally. Start of his journey  In the first story of this article it was about a guy named Charlie Bracke and he was just a normal guy that was playing video games since he was young at the age of 5   , he was playing old 2D games and many others, In his teenage years he become more obs

Week 5-Project

Game vision statement  Game genre: The game genre that I will be choosing from a serious of options like shooters, action adventure and role playing games I was having a hard time in thinking what type of game I wanted because when ever I get told a project and we have all the power to make it anyone I want I get and have so many different ideas in my head it gets too much sometimes and I had to realise that I was only new to game development so all the complex and cool features that I wanted for my game would be very difficult so I went for one of the simpler routes and chose to make a plat-former game. Gameplay: The gameplay for the plat-former was going to be similar to how super Mario gameplay is because one I liked super Mario so it would be fun to make a game similar to it and Mega man another plat-former just like Mario but instead of just jumping around just like in Mario, Mega man has a shooting aspect in the game, so I know that I'm definitely going to have coin collect
